I am excited to apply for this opportunity to become involved in my local community and represent Region 1. I became a registered nurse in 2012 in Toronto. Over the years, I have had the privilege to work in various areas of health care. To name a few, I’ve done bedside nursing, addictions and fertility care in the Greater Toronto Area. In every experience, I looked for areas to show leadership and enhance education – I found that when I moved to Lakeshore, Ontario in 2017. For the past three years, I have been working as a personal support worker (PSW) program instructor at Canadian College in Windsor. I became the program lead of the PSW program last fall. I’ve realized that promoting health education and preventative care to improve overall community health is what I want to achieve. I try to incorporate RNAO’s best practice guidelines in my teachings, knowing how much this is going to help nurses – especially as PSWs are being introduced into acute care and have become an immense support for nurses. Although indirectly, I believe I am helping the nursing field in my own way.
Hence, my philosophy of nursing reflects a collaborative nature and involves values like empathy, integrity, professionalism and respect. I will bring these values with me to this position.
This is a new territory for me. I am thrilled for this new journey and hope to contribute to the advancement of nursing the best that I can for RNAO Region 1.
