Leadership in BPG Implementation Nomination Guide

The RNAO Leadership in BPG Implementation Award is awarded to the registered nurse (RN), nurse practitioner (NP), or Ontario-based health-care organization that promotes excellence in nursing practice, and nursing work-life balance. The recipient of this award works to enhance the image of nursing through the committed use, and advancement of RNAO’s best practice guidelines (BPG) in the workplace.

2. Advances full scope of practice utilization, scope expansion and new roles

5. Develops and contributes evidence-based tools (i.e. BPGs) and publications that enable and demonstrate nursing and nurses’ contribution to health outcomes
6. Utilizes RNAO Best Practice Guidelines and Implementation Toolkit and other implementation resources to advance the knowledge based practice of RNs and NPs
7. Communicates using a variety of means, publications, presentations, quotes for media releases and stories how nurses impact patient outcomes through use of best practice guidelines

3. Speaks out on emerging issues that impact on nurses and the nursing profession, health and health services. *

1. Visibility in speaking out on emerging concerns affecting nursing, health and health services
2. Occupy an important role in nursing, health and health services, and health debates
3. Occupy a central role in health service delivery
4. Influence on healthy work environments
5. Influence on use of evidence based best practice guidelines to address key clinical issues and contribute to quality improvement
6. Influence on clinical practice excellence in a particular area of practice
7. Influence on patient outcomes based on use of RNAO Best Practice Guidelines
8 Visibility as a BPG Champion in raising awareness about and supporting evidence based practice
9. Influence on the stability and sustainability of the nursing workforce

4. Influences healthy public policy to positively impact the determinants of health, supporting Medicare and strengthening a publicly funded, not-for profit health system. *

Criteria

1. Targeted advocacy efforts impact health services policy decisions in a way consistent with healthy public policy
2. Targeted advocacy efforts impact on social determinants of health in a way consistent with healthy public policy
3. Targeted advocacy efforts impact on environmental determinants of health in a way consistent with healthy public policy
4. Evidence of engaging the public to influence healthy public policy
5. Demonstrates understanding of the link between evidence based practice guidelines and healthy public policy
