Dr. Michael Scarcello, a Registered Nurse for 24 years, has practiced at the bedside and in the classroom.

Since 2000, Michael has practiced as a Registered Nurse in acute care, mainly in the emergency department, interventional cardiology service, ambulatory care, and recently as an evening coordinator on the general medical units – a role established to support new graduate nurses.

Michael confirms that, “a current practice at the bedside has afforded me the opportunity to bring relevant experiences to the classroom and to be at the forefront of current clinical practices”. Since 2005, Michael has taught in the School of Health, Negahneewin, and Community Services at Confederation College (Thunder Bay, ON.), mainly in the Practical Nursing Program and recently in the stand-alone Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. For several years, Michael has served as Program Coordinator for the Practical Nursing Program, led Program Approval for regulatory purposes, and has chaired several provincial nursing committees. Recently Michael has accepted a role as Co-Lead as Confederation College embarks upon an opportunity as a Pre-Designate as an RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization!

Michael first became involved with RNAO, as a first-year nursing student in 1996. Since first becoming involved with the RNAO Lakehead Chapter, Michael has since served as Chapter President, and within the membership, communication, and recently the political action portfolios. Michael has worked with students, served on provincial committees with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Dr. Scarcello obtained a doctoral degree from the College of Saint Scholastica (Class of 2018) focusing on post-surgical care and older adults; a Master of Nursing degree (Gerontological, Clinical Nurse Specialist) also from the College of Saint Scholastica (Class of 2009); and an Honours Undergraduate degree in Nursing from Lakehead University (Class of 2000).
