Name:
Abigail Jarrett
Credentials:
BMSc, BScN, RN

Abigail Jarrett is a young registered nurse who completed her first degree in Medical Sciences from Western University and her nursing degree in the compressed program at Trent University. Abigail started her healthcare career as a hospital and LTC volunteer during her high school and university years. She began working as a PSW during nursing school, and started RN work in cardiovascular nursing in London. Having advanced her career by completing the critical care nursing certification with The Michener Institute of Education, she worked at Guelph General before moving to Stouffville to work with SE Health in various critical care units across the GTA.

Abigail has been an active RNAO member since 2019. She has been involved in student leadership through the Trent-Fleming Nursing Students' Association and the Canadian Nursing Students' Association most notably as the Ontario Regional Director for the 2021-2022 term. It was through this position that she worked closely with ONA to advocate for nursing student needs during the pandemic, meeting with MPP's and journalists frequently. This work - along with the work of others advocating for the same needs - inevitably led to the creation of the clinical extern position now offered to students in many facilities across the province. Additionally, she was on CNSA's Strategic Planning Committee and their Governance Committee for 2021-2022, working with her peers to update the Association's structure to one more inclusive of underrepresented populations.

Now, after spending her first two years of nursing focusing on clinical practice, Abigail is ready to return to leadership. Her desire to advocate for inclusivity has brought her to the RNAO and a nomination for a position on the Provincial Resolutions Committee where she believes she can influence change on a larger scale.
