Shirley Marr
Shirley immigrated to Canada in 1989 as a RN from New Zealand and started her career on a medical unit at the now-defunct Toronto Wellesley Hospital. In 1991, she moved to the ICU. She graduated from Ryerson in 1997 with a degree in nursing, and then completed her masters from Charles Sturt University in 2002, obtaining her second masters in 2012. She is a certified critical care nurse and currently is the nurse educator at Etobicoke General Hospital. Her interests are delirium in ICU, as well as resuscitation. She was awarded the first SPARC award for resuscitation in 2013. Shirley believes deeply in the professionalism in nursing, and advocates for nurses to continue to learn and educate themselves during their nursing career. This continuing education can be achieved several ways, Shirley believes - via the school system, as well as attending conferences, reading journals, and asking questions of all members of the health-care team.
