Over her 29 year nursing career, Leigh has focused her passion for women’s health care and the needs of the childbearing family. She has worked across the entire perinatal continuum in roles such as clinical nurse, clinical educator, project leader, lactation consultant, prenatal instructor, and clinical teacher. She presently works as a nurse in the Birthing Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and at Mt. Sinai hospital as a Nurse-Lactation Consultant.

Leigh continues to be involved with issues pertaining to nursing, perinatology and breastfeeding and is an actively involved member in professional associations at the local, provincial, national, and international level. She has been an RNAO member since 1995 and has served on the executive of the Maternal Child Nurses Interest Group as Communications and Public Relations Officer for a number of years and now as Chair.

Her current work and interests involve her dedication to providing exemplary care as a front line nurse, affording ongoing clinical mentorship for students and fellow nurses, and enhancing her own participation in knowledge translation and nursing research. She has a strong interest in the areas of women’s and nurses experiences caring for families experiencing a high risk pregnancy and/or a high risk breastfeeding relationship.
