A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing’s undergraduate and graduate programs, Katie is currently the Senior Clinical Manager of the Operating Room, Ophthalmology Clinic and Newborn Screening teams at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

With a diverse background in nursing, international business development, risk management and clinical leadership, Katie’s day-to-day work is centered around facilitating the evolution and growth of high-functioning acute care teams, while continually striving to support optimal outcomes for patients and families.

Acknowledging the overwhelming impact of the current cost of living crisis on nursing recruitment and retention in urban centres, Katie has a particular interest in partnering with local and provincial healthcare leaders to explore innovative solutions that will support improved working conditions and equitable compensation for nurses practicing in high-cost regions. Furthermore, informed by the insights that she has gained from over 10 years of working in acute care organizations, Katie also hopes to contribute to efforts that will support improved synergy between acute care and community health organizations, capitalizing on opportunities to maximize macro-level system efficiencies. With a goal of mobilizing the expertise and creativity of nursing leaders across the healthcare continuum, Katie envisions a future wherein which nurses meaningfully leverage their political power to radically shift current models of care provision to support improved healthcare equity for Ontario residents.
