Michael Scarcello

Michael Scarcello, a registered nurse for 18 years, has practiced extensively both at the bedside and in the classroom.

Since 2000, he has practiced nursing at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, in the emergency department, and since 2015, in the interventional cardiology department. Michael is firm in stating: “Maintaining a current practice at the bedside has afforded me the opportunity to bring relevant experiences to the classroom and to be on the cutting edge of current clinical practices.” Since 2005, Michael has taught in the School of Health, Negahneewin, and Community Services at Confederation College (Thunder Bay), mainly in the Practical Nursing Program, but also in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and among other allied health program areas. Currently, he is the program co-ordinator for the Practical Nursing Program.

Michael first became involved with RNAO as a first-year nursing student in 1996, after submitting to a nursing essay contest. Since first becoming involved with the RNAO Lakehead Chapter, Michael has served as chapter president and within the membership and political action portfolios. Most recently, he was appointed to the position of Region 12 board representative.

Michael obtained a doctoral degree from the College of Saint Scholastica (Class of 2018) focusing on post-surgical care and older adults. He also has a Masters of Nursing degree (Clinical Nurse Specialist) from the College of Saint Scholastica (Class of 2009), and an undergraduate degree in nursing from Lakehead University (Class of 2000).
