Julie McShane RN, MN is the Evidence-Based Nursing Practice Lead at Unity Health Toronto (UHT) and provides leadership for Ministry of Health workforce programs.  Julie has worked for over a decade in nursing professional practice in both the community and hospital sector and has held previous roles in nursing research and as a CVICU staff nurse at St. Michael’s Hospital for many years.  Julie’s passion for nursing strategy and health human resources initiatives were sparked during her time at the Nursing Health Services Research Unit (now defunded) at U of T.  Prior to returning to UHT in 2021, Julie was the Manager of Professional Practice for the Surgery & Arthritis programs at UHN.     Julie has a BNSc from Queen’s University & a Masters of Nursing from U of T.  Julie’s experiences with IENs are informed in part by her own experiences as a new Ontario nursing graduate, unable to find employment in Canada in the early 90’s, and beginning her nursing career in Texas.
