Pat Sevean is an associate professor in the School of Nursing at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. Pat holds a Diploma in Nursing from the Lakehead Regional School of Nursing, Post RN BScN Lakehead University, Masters of Nursing College of St. Scholastica, and Doctorate of Education University of Toronto. Her research interests include: cancer-nursing practice, pain and symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care, and nursing workforce recruitment and retention issues.

Pat embraces a philosophy of nursing practice and education that reflects the concept of caring as ‘one’ unifying central paradigm. Subscribing to the ideology that education should be emancipating and liberating, Pat inspires learners to pursue an idea wherever it leads them. She believes that as lifelong learners, nurses who care for themselves and their colleagues are best prepared to care for patients, families and the community with the highest standard of professional nursing practice. She is also committed to addressing the unique practice needs of nurses who live and work in rural and remote communities.

Pat has completed a two-year term on RNAO's Board of Directors, and is seeking re-election for an additional term 2015-17. Pat would be honoured to continue serving on RNAO's Board of Directors by representing Region 12 nursing colleagues in northwestern Ontario.
