Speaking out for nursing. Speaking out for health.

Hilda Swirsky

Status: Hopeful
Name:
Hilda Swirsky
Credentials:
RN, BScN, MEd

As we collectively face the challenges of integrating our health-care system, Hilda asks for your vote for Region 6 Representative on RNAO’s Board of Directors. Passionate about nursing and RNAO’s vision and mission, Hilda will bring into this position her broad perspective and expertise as past president of the Canadian Nurses for Health and the Environment; current member of RNAO’s Nursing Practice Committee; policy and political action Officer for the Diabetes Nursing Interest Group; and both Workplace Liaison and the liaison between the Canadian Nurses Association's Canadian Nurses for Health and the Environment and RNAO’s Ontario Nurses for the Environment Interest Groups.

Hilda received her Diploma of Nursing from York Regional School of Nursing, her BScN from Ryerson Polytechnic University and, enthralled with learning, her Master's of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

Hilda believes that nurses, trusted and respected as knowledge experts, must be inspiring mentors and role-modeling leaders who instill into our Canadian health-care system values based on cultural and environmental evidence-based research and practices to provide healthy working environments. Electronic health records, chronic illnesses, interprofessional collaboration, a changed focus to illness prevention and health promotion, and empowered patients who want a collaborative partnership in their health-care delivery will all impact our health-care practices.

Currently working in the largest women and infants program in Mount Sinai Hospital, Hilda recently spoke eloquently in that hospital's Auditorium Open Forum to Magnet Appraisers exemplifying attributes such as clinical service excellence that contributes to the organization being considered as ‘Magnet Worthy’.
