I practiced nursing in the community with a special focus on rehabilitation for 18 years before returning to the University of Toronto to complete a Masters Degree in Health Science – Health Administration. I worked for the Institute for Work & Health for 15 years, until my retirement in 2011, and held a variety of positions: Project Coordinator of the pilot project Implementing Evidence-Based Guidelines: A Community Intervention, Manager of the Health Services Research, Monitoring & Evaluation Area research unit and Managing Editor, Cochrane Back Review Group. Teaching was always an integral part of my practice with clients, family members, staff and students from the medical, nursing and allied-health fields. I presented to and wrote for a variety of local and international audiences on a range of topics during my career and was actively involved in a number of teaching activities with the Faculty of Medicine and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. I have maintained an active role in my community and professional organizations: registrant with the Ontario College of Nurses (non-practicing); served as Secretary and Board Representative for Region 7, RNAO; Treasurer and President for the Health Executive Forum; member of the Canadian Council of Health Services Executives; President and Director, Flemingdon Health Centre. I feel my varied career provides a broad perspective on issues facing health care in general and the nursing profession in particular.
