As a long-term care (LTC) home administrator, I managed a facility in accordance with all legislative requirements. I provided leadership in the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures for the facility to ensure high-level medical, physical and emotional care for all clients and families. I also provided an effective operating environment for all employees and volunteers. I prepared the organization for the accreditation process, liaised and consulted with the medical director to ensure co-operation and participation of all physicians and co-ordinated all aspects of the human resource program. As an accreditor, I performed accreditation surveys at various LTC homes in the province for conformance to standards. As a hospice consultant, I spent many years with palliative clients and their families on their palliative care journey, and taught palliative care and social work topics to students and health-care workers. As an education consultant with the College of Nurses of Ontario, I presented the standards and guidelines of practice to many health-care facilities. As a nursing manager/educator, I supervised nursing units and educated the staff. I have enjoyed my career immensely and would like to contribute my experience to all health care in Ontario, notably LTC revision.
