NOESGAARD, Charlotte RN
July 21, 1948 - May 14, 2021

Charlotte Lenore Noesgaard (née Wood) passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound at 72 years of age. She is survived by her husband, Henrik Noesgaard, her two sons, Erik and Kevin, and her grandson, Ezra. Charlotte was also very proud of their large extended family of Jean Walters who came to Canada from Jamaica in 1989 and has become like a daughter to Charlotte and Henrik. They are very proud of all that Jean and her children have achieved. Charlotte will be truly missed by her family, friends and colleagues. Charlotte's lifelong passion was Nursing. She was an outstanding nurse, teacher and mentor. She graduated in 1969 from the Royal Alexandre Hospital School of Nursing in Edmonton, Alberta. Shortly after graduation she married Henrik Noesgaard in Edmonton on November 29, 1969. They settled in Montreal and Charlotte was employed as an RN at Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital. She then decided to further her education with the objective of teaching Nursing. She graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1972. Her first teaching job was at St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing (later George Brown College) in Toronto where she taught from 1973 to 1975 while Henrik attended the MBA program at York University. In 1975 they returned to Montreal and Charlotte joined the Nursing Faculty at Vanier CEGEP. She taught at Vanier until 1981 when they relocated to London, Ontario and Charlotte entered the Masters of Nursing program at the University of Western Ontario. She graduated in 1985 and the couple relocated to Kitchener, Ontario. Charlotte then started to pursue a Doctorate in Sociology since there was no nursing program at the University of Waterloo. Following a severe car accident she developed Fibromyalgia and was advised to return to work rather than continue her studies. She joined the Nursing Faculty at McMaster University in 1989 and progressed to the position of Assistant Professor retiring in 2016. She was elected as President of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario in 1997. She served on the Board of Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario from 2000 to 2006 and as Chair of the Board from 2002 to 2004. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the Charlotte Noesgaard Scholarship being established by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and their donation page is found at https://www.rnfoo.org/donate/donating/donate-now.html or the Leith Summer Festival at www.leithfestival.ca as an expression of sympathy and may be made through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492). The inscription which Charlotte and Henrik had developed to eventually be inscribed on their grave memorial at Leith Church Cemetery is:We have enjoyed an amazing life together.
We have always tried to be true to each other and to our values and beliefs
while making a difference to others.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline
