The League of Excellence for Long-Term Care 2019 is designed to meet the assessed needs of the Ontario long-term care nursing leaders. This four-part webinar series will share strategies and approaches with nursing leaders (Administrators, DOC, and ADOC) to support the delivery of high quality care in an environment promoting staff excellence and professionalism. The League will focus on developing leadership competencies, expanding professional knowledge, and preparing leaders for challenges and opportunities.

The series includes bi-weekly webinars, taking place every other Wednesday, from Jan. 16, 2019 to Feb. 27, 2019.

Webinar Date & Topic: Session Objectives and Learner Outcomes

Module 1 – Wednesday January 16, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm EST

Professional practice,  leadership and accountability

Describe practical approaches for effective leadership and enhancing team member engagement

Participants will learn:

  • Practical approaches for effective leadership
  • How to engage with team members
  • Professional accountability  requirements for leaders and team members
  • How to leverage the legislation to promote professional practice

Module 2 – Wednesday January 30, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm EST

Human resource leadership skills

Share strategies for creating and sustaining a culture of evidence-based practice in LTC

Participants will learn:

  • Strategies to empower individual staff to  achieve or exceed professional standards
  • Attributes of team collaboration that  enhance LTC outcomes
  • Strategies to maximize resources within a unionized environment
  • Innovative strategies for recruitment and retention
     

Module 3 – Wednesday February 13, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm EST

Strategic governance and operational planning

Discuss methods for evidence-informed practice and knowledge of clinical programs

Participants will learn:

  • How to use evidence-based practices to support strategic/operational planning
  • Strategies to implement evidence-based practices to meet legislative requirements
  • How to identify and overcome barriers to enhance and sustain QI  programs

Module 4 – Wednesday February 27, 20195, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm EST

Creating a work environment to support evidence-informed practice

Participate in a focused dialogue on nursing leadership in a changing health-care landscape 

Participants will learn:

  • Approaches to develop capacity and utilize staff to sustain practice change
  • Strategies to develop healthy work environments (communication, collaboration, diversity, conflict mgt., emotional intelligence)
  • How to utilize and maximize the roles and responsibilities of various professionals in LTC to enhance the work environment

 

Overall Objectives 
During this program, participants will: 

  • Learn practical approaches for effective leadership and how to engage with team members
  • Share strategies for creating and sustaining a culture of evidence-based practice in LTC
  • Discuss methods for evidence informed practice and knowledge of clinical programs

Fee:

Registration is limited to one person per registration fee. Registration fee covers the four-webinar session. Related materials for each session will be provided electronically prior to the session. Cancellations will be accepted up to and including by January 4, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. EST, less an administration fee of $75.00. No cancellations will be refunded after this date, however attendee substitutions are acceptable at all times. RNAO reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this event.
